Friday the 13th2009

A group of young adults set up tent near the abandoned summer camp where a series of gruesome murders are said to have taken place back in 1980. The perpetrator was a grieving mother, driven insane by the drowning of her child, Jason, whom she believed was neglected by the camp counselors. As legend has it, the last survivor of the attacks beheaded the woman. But then Jason came back, and now he is a vengeful and inexorable killer, wielding crossbows, swords, axes and other sharp instruments. The legend proves horribly true, as these campers quickly discover. Six months later, the brother of one of those campers distributes posters of his missing sister. The police believe she took off with her boyfriend; but he knows better. The brother crosses paths with an uptight young rich guy who is having his girlfriend and friends over at his parents' cabin. The brother ends up at the cabin himself just before his sister's attacker sets upon them all.

The latest installment in the dated Friday the 13th serious is probably the worst thing a horror movie can be. It was boring. The characters are flat with practically nonexistant personalites other than being extremely horny. The film displays little to no surprise and the 'shocking' death of Jenna really wasn't shocking at all, neither was Jason's final 'scare'. Let's just hope that this film will finally be the end.

Better than the original. I'd much rather see Jason...not his mother.

I've seen all the Friday the 13th movies since 1980, and after seeing this film, I found it brought nothing new to the Jason Vorhees franchise except how he goes about killing everybody, and even that's hardly original.

For fans of these movies, we all know how it starts out: Jason drowns; his mother avenges him; she gets killed; Jason lives and resumes taking out camp counselers. Why not title it "Friday the 13th Part XII"?

This new film is the same as all the rest -- stupid, drunk/high sex-hungry college kids go out to a remote camp/cabin on Crystal Lake, they sense danger, yet seperate and go in different directions, get taken out one by one, Jason is "maybe" destroyed, the kids leave without checking him. The End.

And this "re-imagining" isn't even scary. Everywhere people are, Jason is right there waiting for them...in the next room, behind the shower curtain, in the shed, on the roof, under the house, etc. No suspense whatsoever -- how can you be scared of what's around the corner if you already know he's there?

Skip this one and watch the original first two films - more suspense and a better, more complete storyline.

Are you fucking with me because I'm high?

A group of campers unknowingly camp out on Crystal Lake. They are brutally slaughtered and never found. One of the camper's little brother heads to the lake to find his missing sister. He happens to encounter a group of college kids who are staying at a camp on the lake that weekend. The little brother's search will not be fruitless.

"For the record, you're never drinking my piss."
    "That's what you think."

Marcus Nispel, director of A Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Pathfinder, and the upcoming Conan and Pacemaker, delivers Friday the 13th. The storyline for this film is mediocre and on par with other slasher flicks. The settings are appropriate and the acting is average. The cast includes Aaron Yoo, Amanda Righetti, Jared Padalecki, and Willa Ford.

"Remember when you took my virginity? I'm going to fuck you so hard."

Friday the 13th was a movie I heard mixed reviews about upon its release. I will say that the kill scenes were inconsistent but a few were clever and well delivered. The story wasn't delivered well; however, Nispel used the cast's bodies to perfection. There was plenty of bodies on display and numerous death scenes were presented in the nude. Overall, this is worth seeing only if you enjoy slasher films.

"I have a better chance of fucking a penguin than that girl."

This movie I think it is more of a teenagers flick. I thought this was one of the best ones of the friday the 13th series. Obviously the first one is the best! I probably think jason is awesome in this one he is smarter and can be communicated with. for the second one they should not have him for the next one. He should be a symbol like in the batman movies. Back to my opinion. I know there were a lot of sex scenes in this movie. But do not forget the 4th one that had the most, you cannot hate this movie for sex scenes that is an excuse. But other than that it is predictable. The theme in this movie went and flow through really well.

I'm not going to complain about all the cliches and stuff. Anybody over the age of 12 knows what to expect from these type movies. Does that make it critic proof?

Not hardly... The first 20 minutes were very poorly handled. We're introduced to a some teens that naturally go to crystal lake and get killed music video style. Considering the director is a music video guy, I can say I wasn't surprised by this. But it's the worst part pf the movie. I was seriously starting to think this was going to be Uwe Boll style. But the rest of the film was better. But the bad news is that even though it's better, it's still a bad remake. Once again the film is playing out in a music video style, but just not as bad. The poor pacing makes the whole thing feel rushed and really tough to enjoy watching. That wasn't a problem in Marcus Nispel's remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That film had a good slasher pacing too it. It's not perfect, but it's a much better effort than this.

But this was such a letdown. I would say that I liked it more than part 8, 9 and 10. But even Freddy vs. Jason rises above this poor remake.

Friday the 13 tries so hard to be scary that it's actually funny.

Much better than any of the original Friday the 13th movies by far. They got really creative with the kills in this movie which showed the makers they were having fun with this movie.

Friday the 13th (or Friday the 13th part twelve, Friday the 13th reboot, or whatever you want to call it) was supposed to be a reboot after years and years of laughable, dull, pointless sequels to the original Friday the 13th. However, instead of being true to these ambitions, it becomes yet another laughable, dull, pointless sequel. It is an aimless, overly gory, stuffed full of cliches horror film, and does nothing intelligent or successful in its attempts.

This film is pretty much everything I hate about horror films nowadays. The gore, sex, alcohol consumption, and atmosphere-less suspense is overdone to the max. The characters are stupid assholes and you feel no motive to cheer for them or even care for them at all. I found myself rooting for the killer most of the time, and that is something that you NEVER want in a horror film. The scares were dull and predictable; every single scare involved you waiting, impatiently, for the killer to jump out and butcher another stupid teenager. The film offers nothing intelligent or new for horror; it is basically a myriad of dumb kids drinking, having sex, and later being killed.

All that being said, Friday the 13th could have been at least a little bit intriguing or enjoyable. But it has one downfall that nobody involved with the film could prevent; the fact that EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYTHING POSSIBLE ABOUT THE KILLER. The first Friday the 13th films were great because they offered a backstory about why Jason Voorhees (or his mother) was killing everyone, and you wanted to learn about him/her and you were compelled to figure out what was going on. Eleven films later, Jason has been revived, killed, and revived again OVER AND OVER, and you know everything about him. You aren't compelled to find out anything about the killer because you already know it all. This flaw keeps every horror remake from being good or even the slightest bit intelligent, and it is no exception. Add this with the dull direction and lack of suspense, it is a horrible mess of a horror film, and one of the worst in recent years. 2009 was a good year for film, and I didn't see too many horrible movies, but this stands out as the worst film of the year.
