20 minutes into this (my 18 year old nieces begged me to take them because they love Amy Adams), I started visualizing the planning scene to take my mind off the turgid rubbish on the screen in front of me.

Big Studio Suit #1; Okay, we got away with 'Valentines Day'. Now we need something that will appeal to the same type of audience that were willing to pay for that. What's the next big holiday we have coming up?

Big Studio Suit #2; Memorial Day.

Big Studio Suit #1; Too far out, you wanna get us fired?

Big Studio Suit #2; St Patrick's Day?

Big Studio Suit #1; Hmmmm...not really a holiday but anyone who was stupid enough to watch Valentine's Day won't care or notice.

Big Studio Suit #2; Amy Adams owes us one plus Mathew Goode won't mind making money for working close to home, particularly since he didn't get paid much for A Single Man.

Big Studio Suit #1; Brilliant! Let's greenlight it!

Big Studio Suit #2; Okay, I'll dig out the standard Irish script - leprechauns, accents, blarney etc. That way we won't have to pay for real scriptwriters.

Exit both laughing (which is more than I did at any point of the movie).

I've nothing against a decent rom com but the fact that this movie made more money than Hurt Locker is a terrible indictment of our society.

BTW, Matthew Goode was quoted on RTE as saying that the film was crap (in an English way) but fun to do and he got to drink a lot at night.

Leap Year is another typical romantic comedy with actors too good for it. I'd much rather see Amy Adams and Matthew Goode in a film with a good script. I swear Adam Scott's character has been written about 100 times - and I doubt the dialogue has ever been any different.

Wow. What a terrible movie. I laughed once, only because I was seeing Amy Adams fall on her face and roll through the mud, and I was laughing out of joy because I hoped she would break her neck on a rock and the movie would be over already. I hate these movies about crazy, phsychotic redheads who fall in love with a man they just met (e.g. All About Steve). And this chick was a total slut who couldn't make up her mind about anything. First, she was in love with her soon-to-be-fiance'. Then she met a dude, who she fell in love with. Then, she got engaged with her soon-to-be-fiance', and then she left him behind without even saying goodbye. She left him for the dude she met. What a slut! I hated this movie so much!!! Don't watch it, ever.

I just spent a good twelve minutes trying to construct a sentence describing Amy Adams without coming across as needlessly cruel and horrible - but oh, how I loathe her. She's managed to carve out a succesful romcom career with only the following attributes: big eyes, a moderately pleasing figure, a voice like a kitten being baptised in fire and absolutely zero acting talent. And then there's Matthew Goode; a fine actor with a beautiful voice who can't do an Irish accent to save his life. He's since come out and slagged Leap Year off in a subdued sort of way, presumably trying to escape the whole debacle with some dignity intact. A wasted effort.

Leap Year stars Amy the useless lump Adams as a useless lump of a woman who decides to propose to her boyfriend, but she has to go to Oireland and do it on the 29th of February, because of the old diddly-i-oirish tradition. Because obviously a woman proposing to a man at any other time or place would just be fucking stupid. Nice to see the film's carrying on in the fine romcom tradition of denying women the same basic human rights as men.

So her plane from America to Dublin gets redirected to Wales, because of the weather. Then her boat from Wales to Dublin gets redirected to, er, Dingle, because of the weather. The geographical inconsistency of this can only be explained by rips and tears in the fabric of reality itself - much like the rest of the film, in fact. There she meets Matthew Goode and he agrees to take her to Dublin for nine hundred Euro. That's NINE HUNDRED EURO. During the journey, the pair do that fantastic romcom thing where they start off hating each other but gradual end up falling in love - a stunningly regular occurence in romcoms, by which logic I'd be currently be pledging my undying devotion to Amy the human turd Adams. Meanwhile, there's an awful lot of fairly offensive Irish stereotyping, all of it clearly derived from the notion that Ireland is a charmingly backwards country full of charmingly backwards people; unpleasant though the assumption is, I'll admit I'm glad it's there, because I'm Irish myself and as far as I'm concerned that's all the excuse I need to say nasty things about Amy Adams.

But there is a redeeming feature to Leap Year. Well, sort of. The jokes are rubbish, but you'll laugh anyway, and here's why: the set-up for the jokes is so clunky and strange it borders on the surreal. Almost nightmareish. It's almost impossible to describe what I mean by this, it's something you'd have to witness for yourself - and believe me, it's not fucking worth it. Just do what everyone else does when a particular badly-constructed movie comes out - watch clips of it on youtube. It'll save time and effort.

This movie had me crying for Amy Adams to return to something like Enchanted or Julie and Julia.

It was charming, witty and I spent most of the time laughing about the main characters. Not too much realism there, but then don't forget what genre you're looking at. All in all, a lovely romantic comedy.

I thought it would be cheesy, but surprisingly it wasn't! Enjoyed it very much, and loved the two main characters. Not sure about some of the Irish accents!

It was predictable and cliche even though they tried to make it different by having the "unique" plot. I love Amy Adams, but I thought she was boring in this movie. Matthew Goode's hotness was the best part of the movie, and if I ever watched it again it would be because of him.
