ABSOLUTELY hilarious. The first scene(s) set the stage for one of Steve Martin's best, if not his best. This, too, has a dark/sadistic humor about it, it's a keeper...start to finish!

SIR...YOU ARE TALKING TO A NIGGER!
when else could a whiteman utter those words and still remane an absolute sweetheart? Carl Reiner has done pulled it off with Steve Martin in "The Jerk".
Bernedette Peters is superb, as well is the entire cast.
Well I better go, what do you think I do? Write reviews all day?

I didn't seem find much entertainment value in The Jerk. The story seemed unoriginal and the characters weren't nearly as interesting as they looked.

Before watching this movie, I expected something as funny as, or better than Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. With that being said, it wasn't as good as I expected it to be. In the film Steve Martin was good, but not great. What I enjoyed the most about the movie was the over-the-top humor. In particular, the scene with the sniper and the cross eyed scene were my favorite. What I didn't enjoy about the movie was how far spread out the funny bits were, it feels slow even for such a short running time. I also didn't like some of the supporting cast, mainly his love interest. (Can't remember the name) As a whole, the movie is good for what it is. I wouldn't recommend buying it, but it is worth renting to make your own judgment on it. I give it a 6 out of 10.

This movie has Steve Martin written all over it. This movie is the title its just stupid. Yet it can make you laugh hard and you will be quoting this movie for a long time. When you see this and you see him growing up in a black family you just have to laugh hes just so off the wall. Even this is played out by some what good acting I guess everyone was OK. They did make you laugh and thats one of the hardest things to do in the acting world. So in the end this movie is a laugh riot but the acting is OK and its just a normal slapstick comedy.
